Yesterday we did some cooking !!!!!

Me and Jo did some cooking in the staffroom.  We made gingerbread men, Tui can and Christmas trees.  We waited for them to cool down then we put the icing on the gingerbread men.  We put the lollies on the gingerbread men.  Robyn helped us roll the dough and cut the shapes.  She was a good help.  I gave them to all my friends in room 10 and to Mrs Cribb.  We went to Mr Ritai's office and gave him, Mrs Wilkinson, Mrs Hawkins and Mrs McAllister one too.  I enjoyed the cooking !!!!!

Fantastic Writing in Room Ten Today

This is the first draft of Poppy's writing using the 'recipe' from James K Baxter's poem. She worked hard to create her own ideas and really bring that moment into the reader's mind. Jackson also helped with ideas and by discussing.....this led to a fantastic edit. I am so proud of Poppy's growing writing skills. What do you think?

Mrs Cameron’s farewell was usual enough; It had a big lot of people smiling, children watching the pinky glittery costumes shining over to the back of the adince. A dance I never did. My heart was pounding when it was my tern to be in the front. But I was nervous. I had a  blast of a time. But to Be onist I can not pictcher mrs Cameron in a polka dot abiceny.
Doing nothing important.

Mrs Cameron’s farewell was usual enough; It had a lot of people smiling, children watching, pinky, glittery costumes shining over  the back of the audience, and a dance I had never done before. A  kind-hearted   speech that I didn’t have to attempt. Heart pounding, my turn in the front, nervous. Mrs Cameron’s joy-filled-happy-tears racing cross-country down her face.

Doing nothing important at all.

Writing Challenge For the Fantastic Room 10 Authors

Do you love the power of words?
Here is a starter to help you write more expressively about your holidays... And as a bonus, you need less words too ;-)

New Zealand has several famous writers and poets. James K. Baxter is one of them.
He writes thus:

"The town was usual enough; it had
A creek, a bridge, a beach, a sky
Over it, and even a small tin church
I never went to. My brother, my cousins and I
Did what boys do - dozed in the hot
Schoolroom, made bows and arrows, dodged the mad
Boatbuilder, crept like rabbits through the black
Under-runners with a weak torch,
Burnt dry rushes, wrestled or swam
Doing nothing important"

- James K. Baxter

Re-write the poem, filling in your own details about a place you have been to, using strong verbs, interesting nouns, and appealing adjectives, yet maintaining the same rhythm. Post it on your own blog or as a comment here. Don't forget to sign your name. I can't wait to read them.

My Taonga Story

My Taonga is my pet cat Meela.
My mum got my cat for me for my birthday.
Meela is very special to me because she comforts me and she makes me feel safe.
Meela's colours are quite different to most cats. She has a mixture of colours. Meela is a tortoise shell with ginger, black and white.
When she was little she didn't have as much ginger, but now she's really starting to show more ginger in her.
I have a responsibility now and I'm proud of it. I love caring for my cat. She is the best pet anyone can have.

Kyphosis also known as roundback or Kelso's hunchback is a condition that people get when they keep thier neck faceing down to much, for example, laptops you have to keep your neck down to see what you are doing. The spine has a series of normal curves when viewed from the side. The condition is serious if you have to many hours having your head down, you will slowly start to curve and then at the serious point you end up with a hunchback.

Riding for the disabled!

Ponies clip-clopped through Stratford on 1.8.13 as Central Taranaki Riding for the Disabled tried to raise its profile in the community.
Money and volunteers are sought by the non-profit group to run the organisation and provide children with longer riding lessons, president Sarah Collier said.
The organisation's National Awareness Week is now on.
"Our riding classes are currently half an hour every Thursday, but we're hoping to have it on Fridays as well and bring the sessions up to 45 minutes.
"We need volunteers for it to happen," Ms Collier said.
"With longer lessons, children will have the chance to groom their horse, and lead it back to the stable.
"We have about 10 regular volunteers with us at the moment, but need more."
Ms Collier said riding improves the children's balance and co- ordination, and their interaction with the horses teaches them respect for animals.
"Some love to cuddle the horses, and there are some who were initially afraid of these large animals, but they learn to get over the fear," she said.
Extra funds in the kitty would also mean the organisation could buy new horses when they retire their older ones.
"Some [horses] are donated which is good, but it costs between $4000 to $5000 for one and we have three which are in their 20s and last year we retired one in its 30s," Ms Collier said.
A Melbourne Cup themed dinner fundraiser is being held at TET MultiSports Centre on November 5. Tickets are $50.

Brooklyns Reading Recovery Progress.

Last week on Friday I finished my final assessment on the story Animal Cannibals.  Today I picked out a book called Deadly Snakes.  Donna and I discussed what the book may be about, I think it's about snakes that kill animals and people, and how they do it.  Now I read and listen to the story on the I pod shuffle.

I've just reached my 80 books, my goal is to reach 100 books, because at 100  I get to pick  2 things from the goodie box.
